DJ Higgins & DJ May "Take It All Off" For Cancer Research Medleys In Motion Mobile DJ's Mike Higgins and Mike May recently "took it all off" to help find a cure for kids' cancer research. The DJ's also donated their time and talent during the event. Along with Higgins and May, 80-shavees accepted the lofty challenge issued by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and shaved their heads in exchange for donations to help raise money for childhood cancer research. $23,300 was raised locally as part of a worldwide effort to Conquer Kids’ Cancer. Participants find that shaving their head is a small sacrifice in comparison to what these children endure, and want to raise money to help find a cure for children with cancer now and in the future. Prior to the event, 40 individuals were registered as shavees, when all was said and done, nearly 80 individuals stepped up to help in addition to the many volunteers and donors who assisted. "While I had no intention of shaving my head, I couldn't help but step-up and help after seeing how many people were coming forward for this outstanding cause," says DJ May. “We were overwhelmed by the amount of people who came forward to help throughout the event,” says Greg Koeppen Co-Chairman of the event and owner of Medleys In Motion. “I believe 80 shavees makes this one of the largest St Baldrick’s events in Lake County this year,” added Koeppen. “So many people contributed to the success. The Little Big Horn donated the facility, the bands and dancers donated their time and the community opened their wallets,” says DJ Mike Higgins Co-Chair of the event. Koeppen, Higgins and May are already looking forward to 2009. “Bigger and Better,” they say. “There isn’t a single individual who has not been touched emotionally or physically by Cancer. It’s our hope the funds raised will help find a cure allowing the children in Lake County and beyond to live productive and normal lives without doctor visits, pain and suffering,” adds Koeppen. About the St. Baldrick's Foundation The mission of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is to raise awareness and funds to cure kids’ cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships. St. Baldrick’s began as a challenge among friends and has grown into the world’s largest fundraising event for childhood cancer. Since its inception in 2000, St. Baldrick’s has raised more than $34 million for the cause, shaved over 46,000 heads in 18 countries and 46 US states! Worldwide, 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year and despite tremendous progress, cancer remains the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada.
